Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy (LAPT)
Restore your smile's health with laser assisted periodontal therapy (LAPT).
What is Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy?
Laser assisted periodontal therapy, also known as LAPT, is a minimally invasive, highly effective method for treating periodontal/gum disease.
How Does Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy Work?
After you know or suspect you have periodontal disease, and your periodontist has reviewed treatment options with you, you may opt for laser assisted periodontal therapy as part of your treatment.
Step 1. Ensure Comfort
Your periodontist will ensure you are as comfortable as possible and ready for the procedure to begin. A local anesthetic may be administered to eliminate any discomfort.
Step 2. Perio Probe
We'll use a probe to identify pocket depth.
Step 3. Elimination of Bacteria & Infected Tissue
The laser will be inserted into the perio pocket and remove bacteria and infected tissue from the tooth's root.
Step 4. Pocket Seal
The laser will then be used to seal the perio pocket closed.
Step 5 - Healthy Gum Attachment
Healthy gum tissue taken from surrounding gums will be attached to the rotten gum and encourage new tissue growth
Benefits of Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy
- Minimally Invasive - unlike traditional periodontal treatment methods, laser-assisted perio therapy does not require tissue to be cut, which can cause bleeding, swelling, and pain.
- Comfortable - since LAPT is minimally invasive, there's less bleeding, pain, and swelling, and the procedure is more comfortable than traditional perio treatment methods
- Less Damaging - the laser allows for more precise targeting of rotten tissue, which causes less damage and ensures you'll keep as much of your healthy tissue as possible.
- Faster Healing - the laser sterilizes and seals perio pockets, which promotes faster healing
